Pumpkin Carving
Carving pumpkins is definitely a tradition I love about Halloween. That and my grandmother’s popcorn balls. It’s one day closer to Halloween and I went to my in laws to carve pumpkins. I always hate the way mine turn out when I try to free hand them, so I chose a pattern of a bat sitting on a pumpkin. It turned out really cute.
I love getting to light the candles and see the pumpkins glow, getting to eat all the seeds after they get baked, and all of the things included in pumpkin carving. Getting the squishy insides all over your arms and hands as you carve out the inside. I like the smell of pumpkins, though I think I like the candles better. I haven’t ever been a fan of pumpkin pie though. Maybe it’s because it isn’t fruit like apple, cherry or like that, and everyone expects you to put whip cream on the top and I’m not a fan of whip cream. My husband though is a huge fan of pumpkin though. He says it’s not Halloween without pumpkins, candy and scaring the begeezes out of someone. He’s the biggest advocate for pumpkin candles, ice cream, carving, ect. Maybe it’s because his mom really gets into the holiday. I don’t really like scaring people, but I like most the other parts.
It’s always a little sad though when you see little kids dressed up as horror film characters. Mostly I guess because I wasn’t subjected to that kind of media as a kid, and I really can’t do it now. The only way I love to be scared is the way your stomach jumps into your throat when you go on roller coasters and the thrill of that kind of thing.
Halloween still is great in it’s own right, but I don’t think it will ever be my favorite holiday until there is no threat of being scared.
